When I opened the first Trader Todds in 1994 it was in an elegant, yet dilapidated greystone mansion at Dearborn and Division Streets.

The building was full of four floors of stuff that had been long since abandoned. It was mostly junk but there were a few treasures that I put on the walls. I thought it might be fun to put price tags on everything. I was telling a friend about the idea and he said you should use the phrase “get drunk and buy my junk” sounded good so that’s what we called it. When deciding on a name I came up with
