What's the difference between CPAP and an oral appliance?
The CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine uses pressurized air to keep your airway open via a face mask. While CPAP is very effective, there are many people who can't tolerate it. It can be very difficult to get used to wearing a bulky mask and the forceful air.
Oral appliances are a great alternative for those who can't handle CPAP. The appliance is similar to a mouthguard and repositions the lower jaw. They are considered easier to use and more comfortable than CPAP. Many patients are very happy with their oral appliances and enjoying better nights of sleep because of them!
