Next time you decide to spend some time outdoors, keep in mind that there are many scientific facts proving how beneficial to your health it is. As it is written in this article, from The Huffington Post, seeing the green from trees and grass or just nature in general helps your exercise better, so go trail running or a walk in the park. Simply climbing to higher altitudes can lead to weight lost by boosting metabolism and lessening hunger. Skiing and rock climbing also apply to this. Your brain function also increases, according to the article, there was a study that showed children with ADHD had increased concentration and showed fewer symptoms versus those who played indoors. It is also said that being outside for 20 minutes can wake you just as much as a cup a coffee would. How about getting some vitamin D? If this wasn’t obvious enough the sun’s rays will give you that necessary intake of vitamin D considering that you don’t get enough from foods. Although we’re not suggesting to go outside and just bake yourself in the sun. Take in about 15 minutes without sunblock, then slap some on to avoid developing a burn. Oh yea, stress reduction is also included. That’s probably why some people prefer to exercise, paint, read, etc. in natural environments. So go ahead, increase your lifespan by taking in all that nature has to offer, heck maybe even take up gardening. Let’s make ourselves happier by going outside and take a break from all the noise and pollution from the microwave society we are living in. Go on, plan a trip with friends or family and have yourself some fun in the sun!

As we settle into this semester and courses pick up speed we must remember our priorities. Please read the following quote and let us know what you think.

“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am - a reluctant enthusiast....a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.”
