Charlottesville Music

Charlottesville Music Charlottesville Music is now closed for business. Charlottesville Music, an old school guitar and amp shop, was a Charlottesville institution almost from it's inception in 1983 until it's closing May 31, 2013.

Started by Mike and Anna Lewis, and bought by Billy Brockman in '91, the store had a huge impact on area musicians and the local music scene. Please feel free to leave any comments or stories you have about the store and the great cast of characters who created the unique history of Charlottesville Music.

So yesterday, May 31st was the 8th anniversary of the closing of my store, Charlottesville Music. I still think about the store and my customers and friends almost every day.

Hey folks that may be visiting this page thinking that Charlottesville Music is still open, we closed in 2013; I keep this page up for sentimental reasons.

Just a reminder; Charlottesville Music closed in 2013. I keep this page up for sentimental reasons. A lot of my former customers and friends like to visit it for old times sake every now and then.

It's been over a week since the closing of Charlottesville Music and it's been every bit the surreal, Twilight Zone experience I thought it would be. Except for a one week, once a year vacation, I went into that store every day for 22 years. But I'm staying busy dealing with residual business stuff and working on songs for our upcoming Fridays After 5 and another recording project!

All great stories have an ending; on Friday, May 31st, Charlottesville Music will open and close it's doors for business for the last time. I want all my customers and friends to know what a pleasure it's been serving the local musical community the past 30 years, the last 22 of which I was the owner of Charlottesville Music. I deeply appreciate the support and loyalty so many of you have shown the store these many years; we couldn't have lasted as long as we did without you. I know I speak for Rob Walker when I say, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Stop by and say hello/goodbye!

Musically yours,

Billy Brockman

Just found this photo on my iPad. Forgot I had stolen it. That little sliver of a hippie smoking the cigarette is Michael Lewis, on the road with Chuck Berry, doing a few gigs with the Stones. I think he told me it was 1969. Mike and Anna were the founders of Charlottesville Music and I had a wonderful time playing in bands with him for many years.
