“Live art with consistency and perseverance.”

Read More about Lorenzo Cascio’s work in our SOZO Soul blog post (linked in our bio).

I literally stumbled into in Portofino, Italy, a gallery owned by Marianna and Lorenzo Cascio, a father-daughter team. I met Marianna one night when she picked me up on her Vespa; the next day, her father, Lorenzo, an 82-year-old artist, picked me up in his convertible, and I spent the afternoon with him in his private studio; he also took me to the cathedral he was commissioned for - an exquisite bronze sculpted door art.

The experience was fun and creative; a testament to the fact that art and soul connections transcend language.
- Hannah

Join us tomorrow, October 15th from 12-5PM for the public opening of our fall exhibition and to view Lorenzo’s body of work, “At the root of the myth.”

I met Vincenzo del Monaco’s best friend on a plane flying to Italy.  I scheduled a one-hour Zoom with Vincenzo, and I was blown away by his talent and the uniqueness of his sculpture work. He is a fifth generation artist with a family history of craft and art, yet, he has a unique and modern artist niche all his own - working with some of the most prestigious chefs from around the world as both artist and architect. - Hannah

Stop by the gallery this Saturday, October 15th from 12-5PM for the public opening of our fall exhibition and to view Vincenzo’s body of work, “Seamless.”

The moment I first saw Garcia de Marina’s work, I knew it was different, special, and genius. It leaves you curious; it leaves you wanting to know more behind each piece. Garcia shows work in some of the world’s most established galleries and museums - which is a testament to his talent as well as his appeal internationally, which brings about another level of appreciation - it’s so interesting to hear everyone’s different narratives around his ingenious work. - Hannah

The connection and story behind this introduction will be shared through our blog soon.

He experienced ceramic art and sculpture since childhood within the internationally renowned family workshop (five generations old), where he practices nowadays in Grottaglie, one of the well-know ceramic Italian centres settled since many centuries in a specialized neighbourhood of ceramic workshops. He graduated in Architecture in 2006 in Rome at Sapienza School of Architecture.

Vincenzo is a 5th generation Italian bronze and ceramics sculpture artist.

Beverly Y. Smith works from her most recent series:
Last Seen Wearing

After the Civil War, many freed people used newspaper advertisements to try to contact their family members separated by war, slavery, and emancipation.
These ads documented how extensive the separation of Black families was through the domestic slave trade. The ads also verify the persistent efforts people made to reunite with their loved ones.

Through my quilts, my ancestors beckon me to find family members separated as early as the 1700s

My attempt through a series of quilts “Last Seen Wearing” calls out their names.

We are honored to collaborate with our friends at the Brooklyn Collective with this exhibition. See below for additional details.

Join us in celebration of Immigrant Heritage Month, this Saturday, June 18th at 6pm, with the opening of our newest exhibition ‘re·sil·ience,’ brought to you by the Brooklyn Collective and co-curated by SOZO Gallery.

Resilience is one of the most powerful forces of human nature. This exhibition presents the works of seven artists cataloguing their distinctive journeys of immigration. The Brooklyn Collective celebrates the common ground and determination of these artists, the grit and resilience of their families, and the immigrant’s positive influence on our American spirit.

All-day Reception: 12 - 5 PM
Visit with the artist: 12 - 2 PM

's charming still life paintings frequently feature recognizable subject matter: table settings, food, florals, furniture, and figures. Capturing seemingly common moments through the lens of soft, colorful realism, Koo creates a world in which we are immersed in the sweetness of human connection, long summer days, shared meals, tasty treats, and togetherness. Though Deb’s paintings are nearly always based on her personal experiences and memories, each image invites us into an intimate history that could very well be our own — moments of nostalgia captured in time and space.

Scenes from everyday life, Koo’s paintings take seemingly ordinary and mundane moments and reveal their true essence of concentrated warmth and joy.
