The Perseids Are Back β and They're Painting the Sky in Color! π
Every summer, Earth glides through a trail of cosmic dust left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle...And just like that, the sky comes alive.
The Perseid meteor shower is one of the year's most breathtaking celestial shows β peaking in mid-August, but active right now.
Under dark skies, you can see up to 75 meteors an hour -
and each one carries a secret.
Their colors tell a story.
As these space rocks blaze through our atmosphere at over 130,000 mph, they burst into color β and those hues reveal what they're made of:
Red - Oxygen & Nitrogen
Golden Yellow - Iron
Violet - Calcium
Orange/Green - Sodium
Teal/Blue-Green - Magnesium
