Baby… we at YEAR 5!!! 🎉Happy Bday to my youngest baby!!
And that alone is a blessing. Thank You God!
What started as something I thought would just be a side hustle turned into a business that provides stability for me and my children.
But I’m not going to lie — this year was the hardest year I’ve had to push through. Not because of the business… but because my life flipped upside down. There were days I didn’t know if I had the strength to grieve, run a business, and be a mother at the same time.
But sitting here today, I’m so grateful I didn’t give up.
So every year I write down 10 things business has taught me. Here are a few lessons from Year 5:
1. No matter how bad your day is going, don’t take it out on your customers.
This year tested me in ways I never imagined. I cried between phone calls and setups, and sometimes customers caught me wiping my tears. But every single time, I still showed up and did what I was supposed to do.
To the customers who hugged me, prayed for me, tipped me, gave me grace, and spoke life into me and my business — I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness carried me through some of the worst days of my life.
2. Write the vision and make it plain.
When business slows down, life gets hard, and doubt creeps in… your vision will keep you focused and steady.
3. Reinvest in your business.
If something keeps selling out — buy more.
If a special worked — run it again.
If marketing works — pay for it.
And remember: time is just as valuable as money, so always look for ways to work smarter.
4. Answer the phone and return emails.
A lot of businesses lose customers simply because they aren’t accessible. One of my top-rated qualities is my fast response time, and it makes a difference.
5. Only cancel when there is absolutely no other solution.
In 5 years, I’ve never cancelled on a client without finding a backup plan. If I can’t do a setup, I refer them to someone reliable who will show up and deliver amazing service.
And when timing is tight, we’d rather be early than late.
6. Don’t bash bad customers online.
No subliminal posts. No messy statuses.
Just quietly block them from booking again and keep your peace.
7. The customer is not always right… but you should always remain calm.
Even when they’re wrong, stay respectful. Remember — you are a reflection of your business.
8. Just start. Stop making excuses.
Start with the name. Start with the idea. Start with the vision.
Because you are one step away from creating a business that could change your life forever.
9. Build relationships, not just transactions.
Some of my best opportunities didn’t come from ads — they came from people. Customers who booked again. Customers who referred friends. Customers who saw me grinding and decided to support. When you treat people well, they remember… and they bring business back with them.
10. Consistency will take you places talent alone won’t.
You don’t have to be the most talented, the most popular, or have the most money to start. But if you keep showing up, keep learning, and keep improving year after year… eventually people will notice. Five years later, I’m still here — and that says everything.
Year 5 taught me that running a business isn’t just about making money — it’s about endurance.
It’s about showing up when you’re tired.
Showing up when your heart is heavy.
Showing up when life is falling apart behind the scenes.
And this year… I did that.
To everyone who has booked with me, referred me, prayed for me, encouraged me, or simply liked and shared my business posts — thank you for helping me keep this dream alive.
Five years ago I started with an idea.
Today I’m standing on five years of consistency, growth, faith, and community support.
And the best part?
We’re just getting started. 🎉
💜💜🙌🏾🙌🏾 RIP to my daddy!! I love and miss you sooooo much. But PUNP is becoming everything we use to talk about.
