It’s that time! Time to make sure that your loved ones don’t have to experience the holidays this year without the warm glow of a new piece of handmade pottery in their lives.

Join me and this weekend from 9am - 5pm at her beautiful studio in Watkinsville to shop both of our ceramics. I will have lots of good stuff - both wood fired work, and the white porcelain luster ware I love so much. Face cups, ornaments, platters, bowls, you name it. I’ll also have discounted seconds and many one-of-a-kind pieces.

To sweeten the pot, there’s lots of other great pottery sales happening in the area as well, including Farmington Pottery right down the road, and up in Athens. Make a day of it and find some new favorite pieces.

Autumn = wood firing szn 🔥

Spent much of this past week firing Geoff Pickett’s anagama kiln with a bunch of lovely potters down at , will roll into a smaller soda firing with later this week, and then get to open up the anagama on the weekend! Busy little firing bee.

The accessibility to a wood firing community has been one of the biggest blessing of our move out of the city. Learning to appreciate the path of the flame and build up of ash on the pots, and after years of production pottery, letting go of the need to control the finished product of the pot has been one of the things that has brought me back after years of creative burn out. And it’s just fun to hang out with people while you chuck wood into a 2200 degree kiln!

Many of the pots in this kiln will be available for an in person holiday sale I’m going to do with in Watkinsville, Georgia on December 13 & 14. More details on that to follow, but save the date!

Today is the day we drop off our pots at Geoff Pickett’s studio and tomorrow we start prepping the fall 2025 amagama firing.

A wood firing like this is a fully communal creative experience, requiring between 12 and 20 potters to pool their works in order to fill the kiln, and working in shifts as we fire around the clock. The whole loading and firing process takes at least a week, and then a full additional week to allow the kiln to cool enough for us to open the doors and see the fruits of all of that labor. Even then, the results of wood firings are always a suprise, for although you can control the clay bodies and glazes, the potters are never in control of the path of the flame and the spray of ash that happens within the firing process which is why truly paints the pots within. These firings take an immense amount of work and coordination, so they usually only happen once or twice a year.
