The new birthday cake. Thoughts?

The new birthday cake. Thoughts?

Our blog team member Shawn is at it again...check out the amazing fruit cake she made for her daughter's birthday today! Remember how she put together that fabulous little (naturally colored) rainbow birthday party for her last year? See those pics here: http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/?p=9062

Shawn said the kindergartners loved the watermelon cake, but that one kid cried when he found out it was just fruit - although he ended up having 3 helpings! LOL. The teacher told her the kids usually only take 1 or 2 bites of the cupcakes and throw them away. Sound like it was a success all around! Way to go supermom Shawn :)

Chia Pod provides nutritious snack for foodies

Has anyone seen these smart little snacks? Packed with protien they are perfect healthy snack, but at $3.19/a piece at the local Safeway they aren't cheap.
Here is a even yummier recipe I found:

INGREDIENTS:

3 very ripe peaches (pitted and cut into large chunks … it was about a cup and a half to two cups of chopped peaches, but it could have been strawberries or blueberries or mango or a blend of any berries or fruit that trips your trigger)
2 ripe bananas (I will likely reduce this to one banana next time because the taste is pretty heavy on the banana)
2 cups coconut milk
2/3 cup of chia seeds (the Chia Pod uses white chia. I only had black chia on hand and while it doesn’t look as “pretty” as the store bought version, it still tastes pretty much the same and packs the same amount of awesomeness)
1 tablespoon raw honey (or use grade B maple syrup or raw sugar or agave if you want to make this a vegan treat)
1/3 cup shredded coconut
DIRECTIONS:

Combine all of the ingredients in a high-speed blender and pulse until well-combined. Divide into individual serving cups and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to “set.” #nutritiononabudget #healthhacks

100 Days of Real Food

Such an inspiring story! Check out what checking out the processed foods did for this young girl.

I am always amazed when I hear the stories of how your health has changed since cutting out highly processed food.

Here's an email from a blog reader Pam I wanted to share,
"I have a daughter who has suffered migraines for a few years now. Last year was prob the worst, my daughter was a freshman in high school and had missed soo much school. ... We had been to the ER so many times because her migraines would last a week, with no relief. Over the last year she had been to a neurologist (whom put her on heavy duty meds..ugh) they tried everything from brain scans to Percocet, vicodin, Topamax- you name it they tried it to help. On one of our many trips to the ER a Dr. said lets try Benadryl injection...it worked! Dr. thought it was almost like her brain was having an allergic reaction to something. Weeks went by and I started thinking about maybe its what she is eating??? I happened to come across your website (Thank God!!) We decided to cut out all processed food for our daughter. To this day its been about 3 or 4 months NO MIGRAINES!!!! It is awesome to see her soo happy now!!!!"

What amazing relief for her daughter! Does anyone else have a change in health to share? Please do so in the comments!
