Join us on line to see new works by renowned painter Tesfaye Bekele. Tesfaye is Inspired by nature and natural forms as well as things that capture his imagination. Tesfaye Bekele takes these influences and transfers them into his work, through which he communicates with his audiences. Most of his paintings may not be definitive in their form or content rather built on abstract forms, events and objects, but nonetheless convey wonder and mystery. Tesfaye’s work will continue being updated as they come available. @https://stgeorgeofethiopia.com/tesfeye-bekele/#bio

In 1990 Saba Alene pioneered Ethiopia’s art scene with the launch of the St. George Interior Decoration and Art Gallery in Addis Ababa. At the time the Ethiopian art market was almost non-existent. There were only 2-3 full time working artists, with most all artists working in a primary occupation as an art school teacher or for a government enterprise. Newspaper columns dedicated to art were nonexistent. Most Ethiopian homes displayed a family picture portrait, and a copy of The Last Supper. Neighbors and friends alike shook their heads when they learned of Saba’s plan to open a gallery to sell art.

Martha Mengistu

Stylized female figures that are full of grace and movement are features of Mengistu’s paintings. Each painting is memorable and evocative with subjects who are mostly tall, elongated and decorated women that capture the story of their lives written in their faces, their postures, and gaze.
