Sterling has a Moonboard!
The Moonboard is one of the most effective training tools made for climbers. Climbing on the Moonboard will increase your power, dynamism, body tension and contact strength.
The Moonboard is controlled by an accompanying app that allows users to see climbs set by climbers around the world, and to add their own!
The routesetting team put up the board in Sterling’s training room in record time and we can’t wait to see you all tick off those benchmark climbs!

Finish with climbing’s favorite couple, Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold, as they embark on their toughest challenge yet, summiting all of the peaks in Rocky Mountain National park in a single push.

Our Buddy Boulder Icecream Social was a blast!
Thank you to everyone that participated at both our Sterling and Alexandria locations! What better way to kick off the summer season than to crush some buddy boulders and ice cream! We really enjoyed watching everyone have so much fun and more importantly, we loved getting to celebrate our members.
As we transition away from a hectic competition season, we want you all to know that we plan to double down on one of our core pillars which is community! That means you can expect more events like this to come!

Sportrock is the training place of @ifsclimbing bronze medalist Noah Bratschi ( @noahbratschi ), one of the fastest American's alive. A couple of years ago we did a video profile of Noah before he was a bronze medalist when Noah was just dreaming of sub 6 second speed runs. It is amazing to see how much he has grown as an athlete and is now breaking that 6 second mark regularly.

We are also excited to announce that Sportrock has a Speed Climbing Team open to all ages.
The Sportrock Speed Team is a joint vision of Coach Ty Hardaway and Sportrock Performance Institute Director Taylor Reed to make speed climbing a more central part of the Sportrock Climbing Team.
Sportrock's Speed Climbing Team takes advantage of Alexandria's 15 meter speed walls and official IFSC sanctioned speed hold set. We also have a full timing system and pressure plates.

Director of the Sportrock Performance Institute, Taylor Reed ( @thebetaangel ) along with world class routesetters Jeremy Hardin ( @theroutesetter ) and Enrico Baistrocchi ( @solostileclimbinglab ) will be running a Youth Training Camp on October 9th & 10th at the SRPI.

Athletes will focus on getting into a competition mindset, learning how to practice the fundamental skills needed to engage with modern competition climbing. Big coordination moves, volumes, slab feet, and balance are all the name of the game right now and many athletes do not encounter this kind of setting until it comes time to compete.

This is a unique opportunity to train in a space dedicated to competition climbing with motivated athletes, coaches, and the routesetters actually creating the problems at the highest levels of competition.

Sportrock Climbing League Deadline
The Sportrock Climbing League registration is closing next Friday 7/16!
The Sportrock Climbing League is a coed adult recreational climbing league open to all ages and abilities! Whether competition climbing is your thing or not you will have a great time. Come be a part of the amazing community, cheer for your friends, and throw down!
Teams of 4 will compete in three competitions held over three months. One at the end of July, one at the end of August, culminating in a final competition the last Saturday in September. It is going to be a party!

On being Sportrock President - Lillian Chao-Quinlan
Inspired by the Climbing Wall Association's #InsideVoices campaign we wanted to highlight Spotrock’s President Lillian Chao-Quinlan. Lillian has spent the better part of two decades working tirelessly to make Sportrock an inclusive space reflective of her core values. Values imbued by her mother and father’s Taiwanese American immigrant experiences, and her years as an elementary school teacher. Lillian doesn’t look like most gym owners and as a result Sportrock itself is set apart from other climbing gyms.
Take some time and get to know Lillian in her own words. If you see her gracefully dancing up the walls, as she is known to do, make sure to give her a wave!

🏅Sportrock Youth Team takes first place! 🏅
Here is routesetter @nickconklin5091 styling on one of his problems set for last weekend’s USA Climbing Region 81 Youth Bouldering Regionals, hosted at the Sportrock Performance Institute.
We will also be hosting Sport & Speed Regionals on the 19th of this month in Alexandria.
In a normal year, athletes compete at a regional level to qualify for Divisionals, with the hopes of claiming a spot to compete at Youth Nationals. This year, however, was not a normal year! Instead of having a divisional event, Regionals was used to determine which youth athletes will get a chance to compete under the bright lights of national level competition. The top 4 athletes in each age category will punch their tickets to Reno, Nevada.
This past season has been extremely taxing for athletes, parents, and coaches. Drastic changes in the way both competitions and practices were formatted tested the resolve of everyone involved. We are extremely proud of our athletes for the way they have shown up this season. From film review sessions and workouts over Zoom, to supporting their teammates masked and socially distanced in the gym, they put in the work day in and day out and it paid off!
A special thank you to @usaclimbing and all of Region 81’s coordinators for putting on these events. Thank you to @thebetaangel Director of the Sportrock Performance Institute, and all of our coaching staff for your creativity and ability to motivate the team. Region 81 really showed up ready to compete, with the Sportrock Youth Team edging out Earthtreks for the top spot. We would like to congratulate the following Sportrock athletes who qualified for Bouldering Nationals and wish everyone competing at Sport & Speed Regionals good luck!

The Sportrock Climbing League is Back!
The League is a recreational team competition series for climbers of all ages and abilities.
Our first season was an absolute blast and our second season should be even better! Come battle it out, make new friends and party!
The summer season will run from July-September.
There will be a competition on the last Saturday of July and the last Saturday of August, culminating in a final competition on the last Saturday in September.
