If you haven't visited the Abingdon General Store yet, they have a lot of great local merchandise in stock! Be sure to grab some goodies!

🌟Small Business Spotlight🌟

As we kick-off the Small Business Spotlight, we are featuring the Abingdon General Store that recently opened at 252 West Main Street (across from The Peppermill). They have several vendors offering local goods, homemade items, SWVA gear, and much more. If you are a big supporter of the Fetching Apparel brand, they have you covered. They are looking for more vendors to expand their business so reach out if you are interested in selling your wares. This unique store brings an old/new vibe to the downtown area especially with the rustic/industrial look of the inside of the building.

Stop into the Abingdon General Store to get a glass-bottled drink and a pack of peanuts! 🥜🥤

It may look like a pile of old papers, but look closer. You’ll see notes of love, of thanks, joy and even grief. ❤️❤️❤️ This is the famous love letter table at @tavern1779 restaurant in Abingdon. A cozy table for two, tucked in to the corner of a second floor dining room. For over 25 years, lovers old and new have left notes in the small table drawer, commemorating a special night in their lives, while reading the love stories of those who have come before them. This little table might be the most romantic spot in all of Abingdon.
.
Give The Tavern a call if you want to reserve this table. It’s not labeled, so you have know to ask. (Guess the cat’s out of the bag now! 😉)

If anybody's interested, I just created a new public FB group called Abingdon Community Connect. Maybe you'd like to visit and post something. Out of respect for SWVA Cultural Center's FB page, I have not (presumptuously) included the link. Thank you.

Please vote for The Virginia Creeper Trail ONCE EVERYDAY FROM February 9 to February 15. The Virginia Creeper Trail is nominated by the 10 Best USA Today Readers’ Choice 2021 for Favorite Recreational Trail in North America. During this time of social distancing, the Creeper Trail visitation is up 30 percent because people are taking advantage of the great outdoors. We are very fortunate to have this trail in our backyard to enjoy and stay active during these difficult times. The editors from 10Best USA Today put together a list of 20 recreational trails in North America and the Virginia Creeper Trail made that list. Our community is truly honored by this recognition! Please VOTE ONCE EVERYDAY UNTIL close on Monday, February 15, 2021, at noon ET. The 10 winning trails, determined by your vote, will be announced on Friday, February 26, 2021. We MUST sell 51 tickets to bring this to Roanoke. Please share and consider reserving a ticket. Reserve tickets at this link: https://gathr.us/screening/23009#.Wqh5BwLkCAg.facebook #BeHereTomorrow. A suicide takes place every 40 seconds. At age 19, Kevin Hines attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Seventeen years later, he still struggles with many of the same symptoms that led him to attempt to take his life, but he is on a mission to use his story to help others stay alive. Across the globe, nearly 1 million people die annually by suicide. In the United States alone there are one million suicide attempts in a given year and over 40,000 deaths by suicide, with our military being hit particularly hard. Research has shown that for every one death by suicide, over 115 people are directly affected and impacted. The estimated financial cost of suicide is over 40 billion dollars annually. People around the globe are uniting and responding to calls for change with the goal of having a tremendous positive impact on reducing the number of suicides and suicide attempts around the world. #BeHereTomorrow.
A bunch of friends and I went to Heartwood for burger and bingo tonite. Last week we ordered a burger and a small amount of fries came with it at no extra charge. This week, several ordered the same thing. When we were given our bills, some had a $3.00 charge for french fries. A friend told them he got 7 fries and was charged $3,00. They insisted those that were charged the $3.00 would have to pay for the fries or the police would be called! Also, I took a set of slotted bingo cards and a deck of cards to use last week and left them at Heartwood. This week we were told they would not use them because of the liability???? I asked them if I donated them, could we use them and they said no. I won't be at burger and bingo next Monday
