WORKOUT FOR A CAUSE BY JCI
KATUTUBO, KILALANIN - This is a project of Junior Chamber International or JCI Manila. JCI is a leadership organization development that launches socio-civic projects like this.
Proceeds of this fundraising event will be for the construction of Indigenous Peoples Heritage Information Center in Gapan, Nueva Ecija. We are targeting to launch this project by mid April.
Facts about IPs to have better understanding abt them:.
- They are organized communities who live within defined territory who remained to live within the ancestral traditions and has resisted politically, socially, and culturally and been differentiated from majority of the Filipinos.
- Basically, sila ung mga nakapagpreserve ng culture ng mga ninuno natin despite naconquer tayo ng spaniards and americans.
- 10-20% of the Philippines' population is composed of IPs (yet no final number has been determined)
- Most of them reside in the mountains, as they claim as part of their ancestral territories
- They are the most disadvantaged social group - mostly illiterate and unemployed compared to the rest of the population.
- Since they live on the uplands, they survive mostly through agricultural activities
