INNER CITY CYCLING TIPS:
My beginning as a Cyclist was not very pleasant but, thanks God, I am alive.
In 2004 I was involved in a road accident that brought endless tails back Traffic to the vicinity.
I was ran down by The Rout master bus, the bus stood on my foot and was lifted off my leg by the the heavy lifters.
The hospital Doctors recommended amputations but, I said No, if they can't treat me, i was ready to travel out of the Country to get treatment.
Luckily, one Keen Doctor accepted to carry out the operation and it was successful.
In the inner City where there are so many movements, as a Cyclists, you must be at your best at all the times otherwise, you may becomes a victim of Road accidents
DELIVERY RIDERS & OTHERS CYCLISTS
Nowadays commuting hazardous comes from your fellow Riders and delivery Riders.
The delivery riders minds are set on pounds per hours and not road Safety.
Some of these Riders seem to think they're in Mumbai or Kabul or somewhere in the Middle East.
BIKE LIGHTS:
Always ensure your bike is equipped with lights for both end of the bike , Take no chances when it comes illuminations Safety, majority of fatal collisions are result of cyclists without lights on their bikes.
DIRECTION AND SIGNALLING
Before you changes directions or positions, always look back, extends hand signals and allows other road users to adjust and then check again before making moves.
LONG HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES
Another danger on the road, many peoples get injured and killed by long vehicles.
Not what to do when you approach intersection, Traffic light and when they're moving fast.
Due to the loads they may be carrying, Heavy hoods vehicles stopping reactions time is slower than that of small cars.
Always stay at the back of the lorry at the intersection and at the Traffic lights.
Never stand in the midst points of the lorry or close to the driver rear view mirrors.
Treat lorries with respect.
Always, just assumed drivers don't like riders scenarios, its real eventhough not everyone.
I used to drives and rides, i have witnessed it first hand several time.
In London, rush hours especially in the afternoon can pause a great danger to you as cyclists and also get you closer to those who believes Cyclists should fly and not use the road.
THEFT
Every where in London in is Hot spot for bicycles thefts.
Always lock your bike at a busy place, always stand your bike straight and lock in away that prevent movement of the bike.
Never leave your bike unlock or, it go for as little as £20 and on their good days £10.
