It’s an extremely bittersweet day for me…

It’s our 1st and last birthday! Weirdly, it felt like the right time for me to announce that I will no longer be running Oh Curl UK.

Creating this little online business has been a dream come true, and I cannot thank you enough for the support you have given me over the past year..my little lockdown business has been such a focus for me when I needed one most.

It’s been a huge lesson in running and promoting an online business! I’ve also learned an unbelievable amount about myself and my hair, which was kick-started by the wonderful . Thank you girl😘 also, a massive thanks to for hand-making our beautiful bonnets!

But for now, my priorities lie elsewhere in life, and though I’d love to stay and continue, I just cannot devote the time and effort I would want to Oh Curl if I were to continue.

Every now and then, I do like to post my curl routines on my personal page if you’re ever interested. I’m a curly girl with fine, low to medium density hair, and I’m so proud to have curls! Something that I would never have said 2 years ago!

It's Wednesday!

We know how much time can be taken up with having natural waves and curls, so here are a few time saving tips that might help you out:

➰wake up frizz free: at night, wear a satin/silk bonnet or sleep on a satin/silk pillowcase. Less frizz = less refreshing/washing

➰refresh: if your hair does need a bit of a spruce, grab your flairosol & a small amount of product to maximise your curls without having to do a full long wash day

➰speed up drying time: micro plop! Use your microfibre towel to remove excess product & water; gently scrunch the hair OR wrap it up for 20 mins or so

➰speed up drying time 2.0: diffusing is OK! It is not the enemy evil so long as you’re protecting your hair sufficiently with heat protection and not holding the diffuser too close to your scalp on a super high heat

➰up do styles: especially good for when your hair needs a wash but you’re strapped for time? Throw it up! Curly hair is so versatile - don’t feel like you need to wear it down everyday, you’ll be surprised how many hairstyles you can come up with

For all the wavy haired guys & gals out there, today’s tips are for you 😘

➰for loose & fine waves, flip yourself upside. This can give you serious volume if you do it during styling &/or diffusing

➰squishhhh to condishhhh! If you haven’t heard this before you basically squish your hair while it’s wet with conditioner in - can also be done when you put in your leave in conditioner. Squish with extra water until you being to frizz disappear & clumps form

➰got frizz? Try shampooing less. You may be making your hairs dry which will cause frizz. You could also give co-washing a go...

➰avoid heavy products & opt for light weight one that don’t have butters/oils in them such as coconut oil or Shea butter

➰clarify around once a month to remove build up from the scalp & hair

➰mousse can be your best friend when it comes to wavy hair especially. Using a mousse will add volume & body to your waves

➰micro plopping can be very useful for waves, especially after the S2C⬆️ get your towel (microfibre or t-shirt etc) & gently scoop the hair & “squeeze” to remove excess water. Then you can apply your stylers.

➰remember it is HIGHLY unlikely that one persons curl routine will ever be perfect for your hair. Frustrating I know, but our hair is so unique, embrace the process & love your hair whatever it looks like because no one else has your hair😘

☀️HOW TO EFFECTIVELY WEAR YOUR CURLS THIS SUMMER ☀️

You can have the most fantastic wash day, then you step outside and BOOM! The humdity caught your curls quicker than you can say “sidjfiehfns”. Below are a few steps you can take to prevent this from happening:

➰If you just don’t want to battle with the hot elements at all, you can style your hair in braids, or a messy bun is super low maintenance and out of your face...a favourite of mine at the moment in a mid-high plaited pony. It’s a sleek but cool look..I think? HA You can pair your lovely up-do with some cute accessories; clips, slides, bobbles, scrunchies etc

➰Stay awayyyyyyyy from the Glycerin honey.

➰Hydrating yourself during the day will hydrate your hair too..check those water levels peeps!

➰Did you know that your HAIR can get burnt just like your skin? If you have plans to spend a prolonged period of time outside in the sun, wrap your hair & scalp with a scarf or hat

➰Remember, sweat doesn’t mean dirt. You may feel the need to wash your hair more often, which, in turn will cause your hair to lose moisture. If you notice yourself wanting to wash more often this summer, why don’t you try Co-Washing? Give it a go and tell me what you think..if you can’t bare the thought of not washing with Shampoo, at least opt for a Sulfate Free Shampoo

Today we’re talking about how to take care of fine curls. This is something I can relate to massively so hopefully these tips and tricks will help your fine haired curlies out there😘

➰shampoo: props to the gals & guys that can stick to cgm & make it work but for fine curls preventing product build up is super important & so shampooing regularly is going to help avoid buildup & plump up the hair cuticle.

➰avoid long hair cuts: having long fine hair will drag the curl pattern down and make it look even finer.

➰massage: gently massage your scalp when your hair is completely dry. This will create volume & add bounce.

➰colouring: incorporating colour will roughen up the cuticle. A darker shade will look better than lighter ones as the light will can make the hair look more transparent.

➰condition less: for fine curls, it may be beneficial to use less and condition your hair less. using too much can cause your hair to become greasy & flat. If you find you do need moisture, avoid applying it near the roots.

➰avoid creamy styling products: these will weigh your hair down, try something lighter
