Today we celebrate Howard’s retirement.
Forty years after leaving the original Heatons factory and setting up solo as Westmorland Sheepskins, he’s weathered hand, foot and mouth, Covid, the ups and downs of fashion trends, recessions, supply chain headaches, rising costs, extreme weather, all the late nights and early mornings, five children, eight grandchildren and everything in between.
Fuelled by Joan’s ever faithful cooking and lasting support. Through it all, he’s built something the family is endlessly proud of.
Pictures of Howard and Joan celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary last year and a (very badly taken) picture an article about Kirbymoorside market a couple of weeks back. Howard has worked the market for 40 years and his retirement coincided with the Markets Charter day - celebrating 771 years of the market. We had thought he might be aiming for that himself but he’s finally conceded that he might enjoy fishing a little more 🦦 🎣 🍰
We may have to name a slipper after him now... but in the meantime we’ve baked him one of his favourite lemon curd Victoria Sponges and are taking bets on how long a slightly more sedentary lifestyle lasts 😊.
