Did you know… wood is part of the carbon neutral cycle?!

When burning logs they produce CO2. Trees absorb CO2 and store it as carbon, which makes up half the weight of the tree. When the wood is burnt, it only releases the same amount of CO2 back into the atmosphere, exactly the same as if the tree was left to rot!

🔝 TIP!

If you’re worried that the bottom of your fire pit will sustain heat-related damage, add a thin layer of sand to it. Sand acts as an insulator, reducing the amount of heat to which the bottom of your fire pit is exposed. For additional protection, you can add a layer of lava rocks over the sand. After adding the sand and lava rocks, you can build fires in your fire pit using kiln dried firewood.

Keep in mind that neither sand nor lava rocks will protect your fire pit from rusting or corrosion. To protect your fire pit from rusting and corrosion, you must keep it dry. When moisture accumulates on the metal surface of a fire pit, oxidation will occur, which results in the metal rusting or corroding. As long as you keep your fire pit dry, however, it shouldn’t rust or corrode.

🔝TIP… here’s how to reduce the amount of smoke in your wood fired pizza oven.

You should only use top quality wood that has been stored correctly (see our storage guide). Use kiln dried for maximum heat, and make sure you only burn wood. Get the initial fire burning as hot as possible, using plenty of kindling and paper. If the fire is clean and efficient, you will see red hot embers and bright swirling flames. If it is hot enough, there won’t be much smoke. If the logs are too large, you risk smothering the fire. This will create too much smoke. Smaller logs are better for ovens. 🪵🍕🔥
