Yesterday, we celebrated another big medal through Rochele Nunes.
The Portuguese +78kg fighter finished off her work day with a huge IPPON to win bronze at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam.
Very glad for her, because her personality is amazing and her smile after the bronze medal match was contagious.

THE LEGEND IS BACK.
Roughly one week after the IJF World Championships in Tashkent, double Olympic Champion Lukas Krpalek couldn’t be satisfied with his result in Uzbekistan.
So he went to fight the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam to get a few things right.
As the clear favourite he entered the stage of +100 kg. As the Gold medal winner he went off the mat winning all his fight in typical Lukas Krpalek efficiency and cleverness.

SHAMIL BORCHASHVILI CONFIRMS OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDAL.
Shamil Borchashvili has the heart of a fighter. It might be related to his upbringing, leaving Chechnya with his family at the age of nine to move to Austria was surly a tough experience.
But he made his own way and found Judo as his passion. Judo Austria took him, supported him all the way and formed him into a world class judoka.
The hard working 27-year-old won his first IJF tour medal relatively late in March 2021, at the Tbilisi Grand Slam.
But he kept this fire and confidence until the Tokyo Olympics where he shook the judo world by winning Bronze beating big names in his category.
Now, in Tashkent, it was time to proof that this epic day in Tokyo was not an exception.
And he used his chance winning another Bronze medal at the highest stage of Judo beating former World Champion Saeid Mollaei in the Bronze medal match with a beautiful Ippon.

Last day at the IJF Judo World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. We saw World Championships with stellar performances, major upset, historic results and a great crowd of Uzbekistan Judo Fans.
Today it’s time for big emotions when it comes to the mixed team event.
Former European Bronze medalist Austria will face home nation Uzbekistan in an exciting first round match.
We are also proud to supply the IJF Refugee Team who will face China in their opener.

DAY 7 | IJF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
We already reached the last day at the IJF Judo World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Last day means heavy weights and of course it’s time for the champion Lukas Krpalek to step on to the tatami.
The double World and Olympic Champion didn’t compete to much since his Tokyo Gold medal last year.
He’s currently preparing for his next chapter in life, opened his own just a few weeks ago where he will give his values and experience to the next generation of judoka.
But whenever Lukas is going to a main event, he’s ready with one goal, to win a gold medal.

18 YEARS YOUNG AND WORLD SENIOR BRONZE MEDALIST.
„Make peace not war“, that’s what 18 year old Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko very likely thought a lot in 2022.
Coming from Ukraine, the 2021 Cadet European Champion, 2022 EYOF and Junior European Champion had to go through a lot this year.
But she never lost focus and her goal out of sight. Today, she made a big statement, winning Bronze at her senior European Championships debut -78kg.
On her way to the podium, she defeated even current Olympic champion HAMADA Shori (JPN) in less than thirty seconds and impressed the whole Huma Arena in Tashkent.

DAY 5 | IJF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022
No time to rest after an action packed day yesterday. It’s time for the categories women -70 kg and men -90 kg.
Of course, our hopes lay on the big 3 -70 kg today. With World Champion and WRL #1 Barbara Matic as well as the two Olympic Bronze medalists Michaela Polleres and Sanne van Dijke we definitely have an eye on the podium.
Those three heroes are followed by Anna Bernholm, Laerke Marie Olsen, Szabina Gercsak, Lara Cvjetko and Ida Eriksson.
On the other side, Olympic Bronze medalist Krisztian Toth is leading our men team into the day.
Backed up by David Klammert, Gergely Nerpel, Wachid Borchashvili, Klen Kristofer Kaljulaid, and Mattias Kuusik.

MATTHIAS CASSE. YOU ARE A LEGEND.
Wow, what a final that was! Experts already call it the fight of a decade. Same time it shows how hard and unfair sports can be, because this final didn’t deserve only one winner. Both incredible fighters should have been rewarded a gold medal.
For most judoka, it was the highly anticipated World Championships final of an extremely competitive category -81 kg.
On the one side, Matthias Casse, the most consistent fighter of this category over the past 5 years. Reigning World Champion and Olympic Bronze medalist. The Belgian carries a package of technique, tactical cleverness and mental strength which is second to none.
On the other side, Tato Grigalashvili, the spectacular Georgian with the giant heart of a fighter. The current European Champion and WRL #1.
On their way to the final, both showed their best judo beating the best of the best in their category.
After meeting at the last year’s World Championships final, the Olympic Bronze medal clash and the 2022 European Championships final, the today’s final was another meet-up of the two legends where a lot was at stake.
It was a final packed with everything - tactics, technical brilliance and last moment escapes. At almost 4:00 min Golden Score, both fighters had put everything in that was left in the tanks and the fight became more and more open. In the end it was Tato who had the upper hand with a beautifully executed drop seoi nage to make him the new 2022 World Champion. But yet another Silver medal for Matthias.
Big respect to both athletes who are true Champions of our beloved sport.
And another huge congrats to Matthias Casse. You have a big spot in the heart of the IPPONGEAR family. With your attitude, character and way of fighting it is a pleasure to work with you since day 1. You are not only a champion, you’re a role model for the next generation of Judoka and fighters out there. Looking at your record, it is unbelievable that you’re only 25 years of age.

DAY 4 | IJF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022
Today’s a big day at the IJF Judo World Championships in Tashkent. For big days, of course, we are sending a special team.
In the under 81 kg category, surely our Top 3 Matthias Casse, Sami Chouchi and Shamil Borchashvili are having the biggest shots on a medal.
With Matthias Casse as the reigning World Champion, who wants to keep the red patch on his back for another year. But also Sami Chouchi has shown that he can beat anybody in the World.
Shamil Borchashvili already tasted a big medal at the Olympics in Tokyo, today he wants to add a second in Tashkent.
Other than that, keep an eye on evergreen Attila Ungvari and youngster Adam Kopecky who are always a hard draw in the 81 kg category.
On the women side, Szofi Ozbas is our highest ranked female fighter in the 63 kg category.
The young Hungarian talent made a lot of ground over the past months winning bronze at the European Championships and Gold at the European Cup in Oberwart. She could surprise the top 5 in her category today and could steal a spot on the podium.
On her side, Renata Zachova, Iva Oberan, Geke van den Berg and Hannah Martin. All strong women with medals on the EJU and IJF World Tour.

DAY 3 | IJF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022.
On the third day of the World Championships in Tashkent (UZB) one of the great names of the last decade will say good by to the big judo stage.
Hedi Karakas decided that this will be her last World Championships.
Along her way, the 32-year-old Hungarian superstar won a total of 27 medals on the IJF World Tour, Bronze at the 2009 World Championships and 4 medals at European Championships (Gold in 2020).
Great to see she’s ready for her next chapter in life and we wish her all the best for this step.

DAY 2 | IJF WOLRD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022
On the second day of action in Tashkent (UZB) we are looking at the categories of 52kg women and 66kg men.
For IPPONGEAR, our eyes are on Reka Pupp, WRL #1 who won already 2 Grand Slams in 2022.
She’s in the form of her life and we hope she can continue her run at the 2022 World Championships, too. She would well deserve it.

Good morning on day 1 of the 2022 IJF World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
It’s the opening day and that means, lightweights and lots of speed.
We look forward to see the best 60kg male and 48kg female judoka fight for WC gold.
Of course, top seed Jorre Verstraeten (WRL 3) is our big hope in the under 60kg category but also Katharina Tanzer, Marcus Auer, Andrea Stojadinov, David Pulkrabek and Rodrigo Lopes will have the podium in focus.

EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPION.
The AJP successfully launched their team format and its just another proof that team events are special.
The week before, our Brazilians and won the South American qualifiers with Team GFT. Now and his team won the European edition.
Often, team competitions need special commitment and so it is no surprise that Jan Basso had to compete not one but two weight categories up.
This didn’t hold him back from winning all three matches contributing 3 points to his team on the way to their European title.

Jan was always there for us to give us feedback to develop our high quality products. Now, it’s time for us to be there for him.
Jan is not only a successfully competing BJJ black belt. Jan‘s dream was always to run his own gym in his own facility.
This dream became reality now and Jan finally settled down in his brand new KINGDOM JIU JITSU HQ.
His passion for Jiu Jitsu is second to none and set already fire to many of his members.

JUNIORS ON THE RISE.
The past days, the best Judo Juniors around the world gathered to battle for the Junior World Championships crown in Ecuador.
Of course, the IPPONGEAR Team was looking for some great results and brought home 3 strong medals in the end.
2021 Junior World Champion Peter Safrany went to Ecuador to defend his title. And he didn’t disappoint winning all 4 matches on his way to the final. In the gold medal match, the Hungarian youngster lost attention for a split second which was punished by his opponent from Uzbekistan. A Silver medal in the end, another great result. Peter is ready for senior level.
Adam Kopecky was another prospect for a medal in Ecuador. The 2019 Cadet World Champion wanted to proof his potential also on Junior level. With 4 wins out of 5 matches, a Bronze medal it was for the Czech 19-years-old.
The last IPPONGEAR Bronze medal went to US junior Jack Yonezuka. The first Junior World Championships medal for a male US junior since 32 years. Maybe right in time for the Los Angeles Olympic Games 2028.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES CHAMPION -48 kg
„Please stand up for the national anthem of South Africa.“
This was the moment when Geronay Michaela Whitebooi realised that her dream came true.
A strong performance on day 1 of the Judo event at the Commonwealth Games 2022 earned her a maybe surprising but definitely well deserved gold medal.
The 26-year-old 2-times African Champion defeated Welsh athlete Ashleigh-Anne Barnikel in her quarterfinal and England’s Amy Platten in her semifinal to advance to the final against India’s 2014 Commonwealth silver medallist Shushila Likmabam. She then pulled off another victory in a bout that went to golden score to take the gold.

DOUBLE GOLD FOR KRPALEK
Lukas Krpalek becomes Heavy Weight Olympic Champion. It’s his second Olympic Gold medal after Rio 2016. The Czech Legend is the first male double Olympic Champion in 2 categories.
SILVER AND BRONZE FOR AUSTRIA
Michi Polleres (Silver) and Shamil Borchashvili (Bronze) storm the podium in Tokyo winning first medals for Austria since Ludwig Paischer in Beijing 2008.
BRONZE FOR CASSE
Ahead of the Olympic Games, Matthias Casse was the in form and most consistent fighter -81kg. The World Champion of Budapest 2021 wrapped his incredible year with Olympic Bronze -81kg.
CONFIRMING THE TRUST
It was a fight for the Olympic ticket for Sanne van Dijke against former World Champion Kim Polling. But a strong year 2020 and 2021 earned her the trust of the Dutch Judo Federation which she paid back with an impressive Bronze medal for the Netherlands -70kg.
BRONZE FOR TOTHI
Krisztian Toth is known for collecting medals on the IJF tour but one medal was still missing till the Tokyo Olympics. Now, after winning Olympic Bronze -90kg, the Hungarian powerhouse looks at a full selection of medals at Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships and all IJF World Tour events.
