Mommy Makeover day!!! Thank you It’s been almost a DECADE since I’ve had hair this short and it feels amazing 🙌 this pregnancy has been easier in some ways but way more difficult in others. One of those “others” has been a general sense of “yuck”. I’ve had a much more difficult time dealing with the body changes this time around (maybe because I’ve officially surpassed the weight I was when I gave birth to Gabriel!!!) needless to say, I needed a pick-me-up and made this 7 month preggo feel pretty damn good. So THANK YOU Mare!!! I needed it. Like a lot 💗

- 1st session of this corrective colour was more or less about seeing how much the hair could lift - but most importantly about b a l a n c i n g colour and focusing on producing an even colour and tone. Different areas of the hair can produce different shades. For example: the roots and ends will be easier to lighten then the mid-shaft (area in between roots and ends) esp when pre-lightening black hair.

- Now that a more balanced colour was achieved, session 2 was about taking her from brown to blond and eliminating as much brass and gold tones as possible!

- session 3 speaks for itself! 😊 As you can see - each session gets easier and easier to achieve the desired blond. Next stop P L A T N I U M!!

of going from to is R E A L and can take weeks - even months - to achieve the desired shade/tone! Every. single. head. of hair is different and takes to bleaching/colouring in its own way and t i m e. Much like people, no two heads of hair are the same. This is why Sally's hair may take only 2 sessions while Susan's may take 5. There's really no way of predicting the outcome of each visit and how far we can push a client's hair until we are actually in the process of lightening! An experienced hair stylist can estimate what the outcome will be and roughly how long it will take, but, at the end of the day it is just that - an estimate.

- This particular client was very patient and had trust in the process as well as my ability and eventually brought her from black box dye to the perfect creamy, beige blond after 4 (4 hours each) sessions within the span of 12 months! That's roughly a full balayage session every 3 months giving the hair time to heal and rejuvenate itself while also allowing the colour to fade and lighten on its own before starting again. Again, that was our game plan that she and I decided together.

- In my professional opinion, ESP when talking blonds; ☺️it's always best to take things slow as much as we want things to happen as quickly as possible! That being said, allotting the right amount of time in salon as well as $$$$ - being blond in one day IS possible- BUT! is having that highly coveted shade of platinum all it's meant to be if your hair is d r y, d a m a g e d, b r i t t l e and b r o k e n?? - Blond, yes! But damaged just the same, which; let's face it, is inevitable if you're pushing the hair to that extreme. Just my . 😊

Today I took some time to pamper myself. I left Bella at home with my oldest and headed to the salon for my second round to lighten my hair.

Just over a month ago I said goodbye to my black hair. I had been box dying my hair black for 8+ years.

My hair dresser was upfront with me and explained that it would be a process to get to the colour/style I wanted. Years of box dye would not pull as easily.

On the left was today, a month after the first round of lightening. We did get it more lighter than originally expected that first round, but of course black box dye loves to pull red so I had a nice reddish highlight for a month.

On the right is today after the first round of lightening with Balayage and a snip. We are SO close to my end goal and in only two visits, all while never overprocessing or damaging my hair.

In another month or so I'll be back in the chair to achieve the shade of Balayage I'm going for! After that it'll just be maintenance.

It honestly feels so great to go to the salon and not feel sick to my stomach and be drenched in sweat from the nerves. Hair.By.Mare has completely reversed all the mental damage done over years of bad hair cuts and I no longer fear the scissors!

Ladies if you are local to Woodbridge I highly recommend Mare. Not only is she a magician with her hands, she is the sweetest gal ever!

Before vs After!
My girl worked her magic on my mane!

A month ago I said goodbye to my black hair and started the process of lightening it. On the left was today, a month after the first round of lightening. On the right is today after the first round of lightening with Balayage and a snip.
In another month or so I'll be back in the chair to achieve the shade of Balayage I'm going for! After that it'll just be maintenance.
