JouJou Designs Canada Joujou Designs creates felted 3D sculptures of what you love the most. Hi, thanks for visiting my page. If I really like something I will try to learn it.

Whether you want a desk topper, tree ornaments, key chains, mobiles, wreaths, Halloween figures, Christmas ornaments or bookshelf keepsakes, just message me and I can make it for you. If you want to know a little bit about me:

I was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and have lived in a few different cities in Ontario throughout my life. Now middle-aged (yikes), I have raised one daughter and two

dogs. I have a Master’s degree (not that I ever needed it), I am a self-employed transcriptionist (I type research interviews from audio to text) and I work from home. Needle felting is not my career as I still work full time. Throughout the years I have dabbled in many different mediums of art, constantly learning and discovering new things. I draw, paint, create mosaics out of tile, sculpt and needle felt. I am the type of person who has to be doing something all the time. I discovered needle felting when I was searching for the perfect gift for my mom online. I wanted to buy her a look-alike dog to commemorate Molly, her beloved fur baby she had just lost. While searching, I saw many talented artists’ sculptures and they all looked so real. After that, I began watching video tutorials to figure out how the heck to make these sculptures out of wool. I dabbled a bit and bought a squirrel kit to try. Also, the COVID pandemic had just become dire and the government was starting to close everything down; therefore, I had more spare time to learn. So that’s what I did. Then I made a dog for my mom that was intended to be a look-alike of Molly. I gave it to her because I knew my mom loves accepting homemade gifts (or at least she is a good actress and pretends to be a big fan of my creations; thanks Mom for always encouraging me). Anyway, the dog I made for her looked more like a “cute” item and not a life-like animal as I had aspired to create. So I thought about it some more, and I still wanted to learn how to make a real look-alike dog. I purchased a set of four videos from a really talented artist on how to needle-felt a wolf. With faith and perseverance, I worked through the series until I finished and my project turned out great! I was even asked at the Tim Horton’s drive-thru by the lady serving us if it was real! That is basically how I began needle felting. I began in April of 2020, and by word-of-mouth, I have already been able to replicate some really great dogs for people. I enjoy needle felting more over the other art avenues I have tried because I can do it while watching TV or listening to music and I don’t have to get dirty. It seems to just be the perfect art for me. In my needle-felted animals, I use high-quality Canadian wool, sometimes I have to buy abroad if I require different types of textures, but I try to buy from Canadian companies for the majority of my work. I usually use sturdy core wool to create the figure and often soft merino wool for the hair. If you like what I make and are interested in ordering, please private message me and I will get right on it. All I need is well-lit pictures of the entire object that you want, or a complete description of the object and how you would like it, like the position (standing, sitting, posing).

Begonias

Tuberous begonias are fairly easy to please. They like full sun to part shade. They do need protection from the hot sun in the afternoon. I keep them in an area where they only get about 4 to 6 hours of sun (mostly indirectly). I bought the tubers in April and planted them in pots indoors first. Begonias like to be a bit crowded, so you can plant a few tubers in a pot. These beauties started blooming around mid-June and are still blooming. Learn from my mistake, if the plant stalk is standing tall, you DO want to stake it! Mother Nature took down one of my stalks that had the most flowers on it 😤.
I fertilize with a flower fertilizer once each month (because they are in pots). You can deadhead begonias, but they generally deadhead themselves.
I use a mix of compost and a mix of soil (potting soil, compost and top soil)
Try for soil that is a pH between 5.2 and 6
You want to keep the soil moist, letting it dry only slightly. DO NOT let it dry completely between watering. You can take the bulbs out of the ground at the end of the growing season and keep them in a cool, dark, dry place for the winter.

Dianthus are perennials, they can withstand cold winters and hot summers. They spread by seed and make a great border plants or in containers mixed with other plants. Deer do not like to eat them. Dianthus are a great flower for pollinators.
Keep in a sunny spot where there is at least 6 hours of sun a day.
They like well-composted soil.
I used a mix of worm, cow and hen compost.
Unlike most plants in my garden, dianthus like neutral to alkaline soil. I did not amend the soil in my container and I did not test it, but they are growing beautifully. I fertilize them with a flower fertilizer, but only once a month, because they are in containers.
I water them every day because they are outside. If it rains heavily, I do not water them. They like well-draining soil. Do not overwater as the roots can rot.
I grew my dianthus (that you see in the picture) from seed. I started in March, inside, with grow lights. They are just now blooming, from the start of July. They are 12 to 14 inches tall. The flowers are about 1 to 1.5 inches.
These flowers do not need to be supported. You should trim/cut the dead flowers to keep them fresh with good airflow. Try not to water the plant, just the soil. If you water the leaves and flowers they can develop fungus.
Good for zones 4-8.
If I have forgotten anything about this plant, please let me know.

I think, since I really don't think of this as a business, per se, I consider it more of a site to share my art. I want to add gardening onto this page. I love gardening, and often spend most of my " free" time, what little I have, studying and and working on/in my garden. I, also, will be moving to greener pastures in 2 years where I will have a much, much bigger and better garden ( God willing 🙏)!
My plan is to share what tips and information I gain in my pursuit with you all. If you enjoy gardening and want to read, share, or debunk information, please feel free. In this day and age, you can't really believe everything, and it helps to have creative opinions and suggestions to better your understanding as well. Therefore, my agenda will be to post pictures of my plants (actual true pictures of my plants) the name of the plant, and the information I have read as well as my opinion about my experience growing them.

I will try to post as often as my time permits.

Stay tuned. My first plant post is coming up.
