Delta brainwaves

(0.1 to 3.5 Hz deep sleep )

This is the slowest band of waves that our brains produce and they occur when we are in deep, dreamless sleep. These waves are very beneficial for the body which restores and heals itself when in this state. The delta state releases anti-aging hormones, including melatonin and DHEA. Human growth hormone (HGH) is another anti-aging hormone that is increased when delta brainwaves are occurring inside the brain, due to the stimulation of the pituitary gland. HGH maintains the skin, bone density, cartilage, and the joints in your body as well as speeds up the healing process of joint and cartilage injuries. HGH can also help heal physical pain.

In healthy amounts, delta brainwaves can also cause a person to have an advanced state of empathy, understanding and compassion for others.

Delta is the place of deepest relaxation, deepest healing, deepest spiritual connection and deepest connection with the subconscious mind. It is considered to be the gateway to the unconscious mind and the collective unconscious, bringing access to the universal psyche or mind.

TAKE A WARM BATH

The benefits here are twofold. First, water tends to be soothing psychologically, which can help ease built-up stress from the day. But it can also benefit our sleep: The act of cooling the body, like that which happens when you get out of a warm tub, makes us feel tired. Don't want the fuss of taking a bath? Sipping a cup of warm, non-caffeinated tea can trigger that same cooling response in the body. You might try chamomile tea, for example. It's a traditional herbal remedy that has been used since ancient times to fight insomnia and a wide range of other health complaints.

SAY A PRAYER (OR MEDITATE!)

If your mom told you to say your prayers before bed, she was on to something. No matter what you believe in, the act itself can help quiet your brain. In order to pray or to meditate in a very effective way, you've got to mentally let go of those things in life that that keep you from sleeping. Both prayer and meditation can quiet the brain, which will ultimately keep you from tossing and turning in bed. And the act of repetition, like saying the rosary prayers in order, seems to be especially effective.

TAKE A WALK

While some might find that strenuous exercise too close to bedtime only makes sleep more elusive, taking a leisurely walk a couple of hours before turning in can actually help melt away the stressors from your day and prepare you for a good night's rest.

RELAX YOUR MUSCLES

One old-fashioned technique that can trigger sleep is called progressive muscle relaxation. Here's how it works: Start down at your feet and work your way up the body, focusing on relaxing each part, one at a time. When you get to your core, take some deep breaths. As you breathe deeply, you're going to be ready for sleep. You'll naturally feel more calm and relaxed.

Did you know? Cuddling with a partner (human or of the puppy variety!) before bed stimulates the kind of emotions that are, by nature, calming. And that means better sleep.

SLEEP ON IT!

While we sleep, our subconscious minds continue to work on problems our conscious minds have failed to solve. Most people who have struggled with a crossword clue know that sometimes they have found the answer easily after sleeping on the problem. ‘Sleeping on it’ has also led to major breakthroughs. Author Lewis Carroll is said to have conceived his idea for Alice in Wonderland while dreaming. The shape and structure of DNA eluded scientists until 1953, when Dr. James Watson had a dream that made him consider the double helix. The subconscious mind is very powerful. Provided the conscious mind absorbs plenty of data while awake, the subconscious mind can process and make sense of the data while asleep.

WHAT’S YOUR SLEEPING ENVIRONMENT LIKE?

Your bedroom should be dark, quiet, and a comfortable temperature. And how’s that bed? You may need to invest in a new mattress if you’re waking up sore, sleeping better when you’re away from home, or having trouble remembering who the Prime Minister was when you first bought your bed!

LULLABLIES DO WORK.

Okay, you've discovered that counting sheep doesn't work. So what does? Soothing music before bedtime is said to really do the trick. A 2005 study found that folks who listened to 45 minutes of soft tunes before bedtime reported a 35% improvement in their sleep problems. It doesn't have to be Brahms, if that's not your style. As long as the music is soft and slow (around 60 to 80 beats/minute) it can spur physical changes known to promote sleep, e.g., a slower heart rate and breathing.

COUNTING SHEEP DOESN'T WORK.

Having trouble sleeping? The idea of counting sheep to fall asleep is an ancient one, and it’s thought to have its origins in actual sheep. The theory behind it is that shepherds who were watching over their flocks at night would become so concerned about the presence of nighttime predators that they would count the sheep over and over again to make sure they were all still there, in one piece. Eventually, the shepherds couldn’t keep their eyes open any more and would fall asleep. And so it’s one of those sayings that just kind of stuck. Unfortunately, counting sheep is not likely to have the same effect on you as it did on those shepherds. The idea behind counting sheep is that it occupies your mind with a monotonous task; in turn, it should push away any panicked thoughts of what you need to do tomorrow. The problem is that it’s TOO boring, and, even as you’re counting, other thoughts will start to intrude. When it comes to visualization, a better idea is imagining something relaxing that takes some brain power to maintain but not a whole lot of it, such as picturing yourself exploring an idyllic beach.

HAVE YOU PREPPED YOUR HOUSE FOR FALL YET?
Flip your mattress as part of your fall cleaning checklist!

Leaves turning & falling signal important tasks for your home. Make sure your living space is ready for a long winter's nap. When you turn back your clocks, turn your mattress over, too. Knowing how to clean a mattress is the key to a good night's sleep. If you can't flip it because it has a pillowtop, rotate it 180 degrees to prevent body impressions from causing certain spots to slump. Sprinkle the mattress with baking soda to neutralize odors, and then vacuum it up.

What is a Mattress Sale? | Soma Organic

What is a mattress sale? Mattresses are typically always on sale. With our continued focus on transparency the organic sleep specialists at Soma Organic Mattresses have peeled back the gimmicks and creative sales tactics to make the process simpler to understand.

Mattress Sales have been around for decades. Creating a false sense of urgency to buy a mattress with a specific perceived value and savings which does not exist. Mattresses for the most part are sold at the price they are meant to be sold at.
