The general consensus is that the graphic on the new Farmship Growers t-shirts should have had Farmer Brown sitting on that tractor. If you've met Chris at a farmer's market or during one of his fresh food deliveries to a variety of our friendly neighbourhood eateries, you'll know how passionate he is about growing organic food locally. That said, he knows Farmship isn't about him. It's about a community of cultivators and consumers, all who believe in eating food that is sown in the soil of our island home. But still, who wouldn't want that big smile emblazoned on their shirt?

The general consensus is that the graphic on the new Farmship Growers t-shirts should have had Farmer Brown sitting on that tractor. If you've met Chris at a farmer's market or during one of his fresh food deliveries to a variety of our friendly neighbourhood eateries, you'll know how passionate he is about growing organic food locally. There is a place we islanders live for during the cooler season. The maginificent reason for lush green forests and fog horns. The perfect excuse to hunker down with a good book. The perfectly lit image of the mist enveloping the trees. That time when it's not actually raining but you can see the tiniest particles of water just suspended in the air. Its our home for a spell. It's a State Of Grey.

Screef is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as a small patch of ground with the vegetation removed in preparation for planting. It's tree planter lingo used by Kezia in her previous job and seemed like the perfect name as she transitioned into growing her clothing brand. Screef is all designed and sewn on Vancouver Island in her studio in Lantzville. We are stoked to have her latest style, the Planters Plaid Vest, in three different colours and her staple custom hoodies (both pictured here on her friend) at Local right now.

Merry Christmas, Locals!

Thank you for all the love in our first 18 days. It has been an absolute whirlwind but seeing everyone from the makers to the staff to the fellow merchants and shoppers all come together to show their faith and support (and, at times, patience) has been overwhelmingly inspiring. Really looking forward to growing and building on this strong foundation. So deeply honoured to have you be a part of it 🙏

We won't be having a Boxing Day Sale at Local (but Lucid's will be off the hook) but we will be open on the 26th and all week for exchanges and regular shop business.

for mangling your most excellent logo design with tacky decorations but I couldn't resist because...Christmas.

Still need to get something for your rad niece or nephew? We have duds for the half pints from Westcoastees, RSDK, Om Boys and Screef. QTee Designs, available at Quintessential, makes these cool pants perfect for every adventurous island rugrat. My only problem with them is that they don't make them in my size 🙃

Coastal Hermit is Quadra Island wife and husband team, Stephanie and Ryan. Stephanie is the talent of the operation and tattoo artist by day. Ryan is the all around deeply supportive husband and father that most real Island men aspire to be, who takes care of the dirty work with pride. He is also the goalie on my brother’s almost-undefeated-this-season Campbell River old timer hockey league team called the Quadra Island Old Growths. Happy winter solstice, Locals!!

The longest night of the year seems to be a mighty fitting time to reveal our new logo. I think it embodies our sometimes endlessly beautiful nights with stars that go on forever. There are a few different adaptations, each with their own purpose (see: profile pic), that all stem from this main design. This one is going on the front door and maybe, if the demand is there, on a t-shirt. Would you buy a t- shirt with this on the back?

There is no measure to the amount of joy that mountains bring us. Host of CHLY's Into The Wild .the.wild.chly , Megan loves mountains so much she would hug them all if she could. Lacking long enough arms to wrap around a real mountain we found the perfect alternative, The Little Kin & Co. Mountain Pillow. It comes in a two peak or three peak version with precisely the right amount of granite (none...d'uh) to make it soft and squishy.

Mountain hugging...the perfect way to unwind after a day riding Wash, hitting the backcountry, or hiking your favorite summit.
