We all know the basic ‘cleanse, tone, moisturise’ but where do all the other goodies like exfoliators, serums and gels fit in? According to Dr. Spiller this is how we should be layering our products for the best results:
1-Start with a gentle cleanser that doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight or dry. If your skin ever feels “squeaky” clean it’s a sign your skin has been stripped leaving it open to dryness, sensitivity, ageing, pigmentation and bacteria.
2-Then apply a balanced toner with dry cotton pads – this helps restore the pH of the skin that can be upset after cleansing.
3-Treatment serums or gels should be applied after toning and before your moisturiser. These products boost your skin and can be used morning and night.
4-Use eye cream morning and night before your moisturiser. Choose one that contains humectants like hyaluronic acid to help plump.
5-Next up is moisturiser; try for an oil-based formula to mimic the skins natural barrier and allow for deeper hydration.
6-You should exfoliate twice a week after cleansing to remove dead skin cells and don’t over exfoliate; you can’t scrub a problem away – you’ll probably just make it worse. The correct exfoliator for your skin we recommend trying Dr. Spiller Jojoba Peeling Cream.
