The longest tease for a NEW Pivot Cycles bike is officially over!

Introducing the all NEW Pivot FIREBIRD...
-
“Everything we did, we did for speed,” says Chris Cocalis, founder and CEO of Pivot. “With developmental input from our Pivot Factory Racing team EWS riders, we built a faster Firebird. We bumped the travel up, increased reach across all sizes, gave it a slacker head angle, steepened the seat angle, incorporated size specific chainstays, made it stiff where it needs to be, and kept the weight down and the climbing manners sharp. This bike is designed to go fast, push new limits and win races.”
-
Utilizing Pivot’s Hollow Core carbon construction, the Firebird chassis is optimized to deliver precise tracking at warp speeds, with 165mm of legendary dw-link suspension that devours everything in its path while still ensuring responsive manners and astonishing climbing prowess. Modern, progressive geometry and 29” wheels ensure battleship stability at speed, regardless of terrain, and state-of-the-art ride tuned carbon layups scaling stiffness and keeping weight to a minimum for each size. It looks sweet, but it’s really not.

All the right ingredients.

Shout out to Veloatelier Biel for this nicely laid out Switchblade before putting it all together. This is gonna be a good one!

“A Firebird 29 assumes a wide stance in the sun of a new day. Using the golden rays, it warms its tires in preparation for its favorite of rituals – endless laps on the red dirt and rugged rock filled trails of Sedona.” 🤘

What it might sound like to have Sir David Attenborough narrate a bike documentary called ‘Dirt Planet’. 😎

The new Pivot Switchblade picks up where the last one left off, with lots of options for riders who like to tinker, and a reliable stance on all-mountain geometry.

INTRODUCING THE ALL NEW PIVOT SWITCHBLADE - Beyond All Mountain

The new Switchblade heralds a new era of all mountain riding, with more travel, unrivalled versatility, and progressive geometry.

Today, Pivot Cycles introduces the all new Switchblade – a bike with extraordinary versatility and category bending capability that redefines performance across every type of trail.

We took the progressive long and low geometry of the original Switchblade and pushed it even further with a longer reach, slacker head angle and steeper seat angle.
Always with an eye on confidence-inspiring design, we shortened and straightened the Switchblade’s seat tube to allow for longer travel dropper seat posts in a more compact overall frame design.

All of this versatility is packaged in an even lighter, Pivot Hollow Core Carbon frame with plenty of room for a large water bottle in all sizes.

The sequel to the Switchblade story heralds a new era of all mountain riding, with more travel, unrivaled versatility and progressive geometry. It unleashes dominance over enduro inspired descents, generates speed, and delivers the finesse needed for power moves on technical climbs.

Optimised for the Entire Mountain!
We tailored every detail of the Switchblade to deliver a bike that’s ready to conquer the entire mountain. Progressive geometry broadens the performance envelope while retaining the versatility that made the original so good.

Having relocated back to Australia right at the end of 2018, the first few months of the year for my wife and I were spent settling back into our hometown of Bendigo. It didn’t take long though, and we’ve been absolutely lovin...

"When I choose to race my LES SL, it's an 'ALL-IN' choice. And it's not only for the climbing. At the Whiskey Off-Road this year, I rode my way from 5th to 2nd on the final descent on the LES SL. The bike allowed me to accelerate quickly out of corners while also giving me an edge on the steeper climbs. Racing a hardtail means you need to be dialed and simply on it, and that's a thrill." — Chloe Woodruff

This weekend, Chloe and the rest of the Stan's Pivot Pro Team pb Maxxis is racing Oz Trails Off-Road, the final Epic Rides of the season. They will kick things off on their LES SLs at Friday's El Yucateco Fat Tire Crit. Head over to our Instagram feed this weekend for a takeover from the race.

I love taking out the Pivot Cycles Australia Vault. This time I was testing a new Wolf Tooth Components setup in prep for the next weekend.
The big question, kLite.com.au dynamo or no!
How good is the Easter long weekend end for a long ride. Thanks for organising Newcastle gravel Grinders!
The Pivot Cycles Australia Vault was was a perfect choice for the mixed terrain.
The one thing I love doing after a decent ride is looking at the data. Data often explains or justifies the pain. The heart rate information tells the story that at times I was going far too hard and having far too much fun, but the Power data from the 2022 Merida 24HR, 4HR and KIDS 24MIN is off the charts!
Due to COVID induced chest pain, I really wasn't sure I was going to make the event. Once I got the all-clear from ER I sent out some messages and Lonnie Toia worked some magic to get me to the start line after making the decision to race only 3 days out.
It took 2 flights out to the Hidden Vale Adventure Park, the first flight was in a plane, the second was in B-Wattad Graeber's 300kw+ R32 hotrod where I was the pilot! Mel Dubois met me at the event centre with my kindly transported Pivot Cycles Australia Mach 4SL. It was great to catch up before the race with the QLD racing community but the catchup seemed to continue for another 24hrs!
During pit inspection, I was stoked to learn Lisa Toia had reserved a table for me and her team planned and did keep my bottles filled with GU Energy Australia while every few laps I fished in my food bag of variety goodness. The winner on the day was the Gu Chews, they are now coming to all future 24hr events I attend!
Once the race started it was game on, I loved it. Swapping laps with the 4hr guys sucked the 24hr riders into an intensity that was far too hard. I was happy to play knowing that there were quite a few other solo guys going for it! If you see my heart rate spikes early on, that was from chasing mates and just having fun.
Once the 4hr riders peeled off, the track became far quieter as Clint and I lapped around together for another 4hrs. Around 8pm and under LightandMotion Lights, I'm sure the commentator suggested Clinton had headed out on a lap before me and I ended up chasing a ghost and put a few minutes into him accidentally as I pushed harder than normal wondering how he was staying out of sight. By the early morning, I just kept the same comfortable pace, getting lap splits to ensure I was just doing all I needed to do to keep a buffer. As the time ticked closer to 24hrs I was reminded why 2 bikes are essential as my forks were starting to feel the fatigue from the dusty and the crazy bumpy track.
The trails were great fun. There was a bit of everything in it. From fast parts, jumps, A-lines, berms, creek crossing, switchbacks, bridges, and an aeroplane, the variety kept things interesting.
I'm so glad I made the event this year, it is always so much fun. Thanks to Clinton Haywood for the company and for pushing me through the race and Andrew Fellows for jumping in for some fun downhill play.

I'm super pumped to be putting on a race plate at the Hidden Vale Adventure Park this weekend. After spending lots of kms on the gravel bike recently, I think I'm really going to enjoy getting on the Pivot Cycles Australia / Shimano-MTB Mach 4SL this weekend.
It's not too late if you are looking for a great weekend away. The guys have done heaps of work to get the trails in prime condition.
I'll post up my pack kit if you want to see what I take to a 24hr :)

The Pivot Cycles Australia Mach 429 Enduro is a thing of beauty 😍 Oh and just happens to be a super fast and capable trail weapon!
Well…what a race held by Rocky Trail Entertainment my 2nd JetBlack 24 hour Solo, with months of preparation and after a year of no racing I had no idea how the race might pan out, but I was more than ready to give it another crack.

The race began midday Saturday and my Pivot Cycles Australia Mach 4 SL was flawless thanks to from The Odd Spoke I was setting consistent lap times throughout the first 12 hours keeping it fast and fun.

The Shimano-MTB running gear conquered all 4 seasons of weather from dust to mud, top quality!

Thanks to 32Gi keeping me fuelled and hydrated for the event.

I was also running the Magicshine Monteer Galaxy 8000 lumen lights which made my night laps just as quick as my day laps.
3:30am came around and I was having horrible stomach pains and vomiting it was hard to keep going on, especially with single digit temperature and constant rain.

I decided to have a shower and a quick nap to see if I’d feel any better. I headed out again at 6am and 2nd place had caught up to me, I felt rested and slightly better so I left the warm comfy bed to head out into the rain again and snuck in 2 more fast laps to try and regain the lead but the stomach had other plans, and I started vomiting again.

So I decided to pull the pin, as devastated as I was after all the training and preparation leading up to the event, but $h*t happens and we learn from it.

Thanks to JetBlack MTB Racing and JetBlack Products Australia as another year comes to end with big things coming in 2022, I cannot wait!!

Once again thanks to Outer Image Collective for the shots! 🤙
I spend the whole week leading up to the JetBlack Cycling 24hr wondering if I would make the start line before midday.
Unfortunately, my marking team and I didn't get through our pool of HSC questions until 5pm. On less than 5hr sleep I took the sensible option of just having fun, riding around with the Hunter Schools MTB team, coaches and my many friends who were at this race. As advertised by Rocky Trail Entertainment, this was an end of year party, a chance to catch up and have some fun on trails. Next year this event will be the AusCycling National Champs, so hopefully, I get my marking sorted earlier 🤣
For those that were wondering, yes, that is a 160mm fork on my Pivot Cycles Australia Switchblade, so much fun!

The real race this weekend will be completing HSC marking before the JetBlack Cycling 24hr starts at midday Saturday.
Hopefully, I don't have to give away too much of a head start 🤣
With a global shortage of bike, you will at times see me pushing out laps on my Pivot Cycles Australia Switchblade!

New bike day 😊
I'm participating in Starlight’s Tour de Kids cycling challenge as part of the Santini Australia team to raise money for sick kids. We recently had a child in our extended family diagnosed with leukemia and a student in my coaching group is also undergoing treatment. Cancer really sucks and if I can help raise awareness and promote support for these people I'm in!
If you could please contribute, I'll aim to average 100km each day through September.
I'm still deciding if I do the 100km per day on the JetBlack Products Australia Volt via Zwift Australia | New Zealand or make the most of the amazing weather and take out the Pivot Cycles Australia Switchblade!
If you want to also signup to the program please do, all riders get access to training using Today's Plan or support my team via this link:
