Compost is key for organically feeding your plants. You can use kitchen scraps, garden waste or even grow your own green manure mix.

One plant worth growing for compost are peas. Since they are a legume, they can pull nitrogen out of the soil that other plants can't access. Once you have enjoyed all the peas, be sure to compost the leaves and stems for a nitrogen boost!

A great way to reduce pest pressures organically is by planting companion plants. Benefits include:
🌻Improved pollination and fruit set
🐝Encourage beneficial insects that prey upon pests
🐛Act as trap crops, having pests munch on those instead of taxing your harvest!

What is organic gardening? Well it is simply growing food and flowers without the use of genetic modification or chemicals such as artificial fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides.

This can easily be achieved in the home garden and access to organic produce is often a great reason to start growing your own at home!

The weather is warming. Some regions can start planting their tomato seedlings outside now. Don't worry if you haven't started your tomatoes yet, there is still time! Check out this giant leek we grew in our trial garden! Sizes this impressive can only be achieved by choosing the right seed, this variety is called Leek Giant Elephant.

Big in size and in flavour, this beauty went into a chicken and leek pie that was delicious!

Fun fact - did you know that kale, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli and kohl rabi are all the same plant?! Each unique variety has been selected for different desirable traits and over many years they have become very different from one another. This kohl rabi grown by was selected for its fat juicy stems!

We couldn't resist sharing this very special poppy bloom that came up in Craig N Tarsha Scotts garden.

The unusual split colouring is a rare phenomenon where one plant is formed from two different sets of genetics, kind of like a conjoined twin. This is called a chimera flower! A very special find, thanks for sharing 😀
